Why Luma holds your store back
Luma is Magento's reference theme. It was designed to demonstrate every feature, not to be fast: it loads RequireJS, jQuery, jQuery UI and Knockout.js on every page and renders much of the page in the browser. On a mid-range phone that means a Largest Contentful Paint of four seconds or more and Lighthouse scores in the 30s to 50s.
Hyvä keeps the parts of Magento that work (layout XML, blocks, view models and the backend) and replaces the frontend with server-rendered templates, Tailwind CSS and a little Alpine.js. Because the structure is so close to Luma, most Luma customisations can be ported one to one, which is why Luma to Hyvä is the fastest and most predictable migration we do.
